Posted by admin in Solar roofing materials on 06 18th, 2009Recently I saw an article about ways to help people who have become homeless due to the economy, natural disasters, and war vets that were not able to return into the working force after leaving the military. There were lots of plans and ideas about how to go about it but none of them seem to have a more permanent solution to helping the individuals.
One idea did capture my attention, it was about using currently built apartment buildings, or other temporary housing such as mobile home parks to give them a place to live while they were given the paid jobs to build their own new houses. They proposed that by using the younger individuals (18-30yrs) they could be used a cheaper labor force to construct buildings such as multistory apartment buildings, or by constructing and assembling prefab homes that they themselves could later live in. They mentioned that even though giving these individuals jobs building tenement buildings that they would live in would mean that they will become and added burden to the currently over taxed energy crisis that we all face. While they didn't provide an explanation of how they were to ease this burden they said that there was technologies in todays and tomorrows markets that would aid in this.
My idea on easing the burden is to make the buildings more self sustaining, using solar energy gathered through solar panels on the roofs, solar glass (thin translucent photovoltaic film added to windows another building material that collects solar energy) to reduce the electrical needs. While I don't have an idea on how to conserve other resources this seems to be a more feasible than some of the other ideas.
What is your opinion on doing something like this project?
Do you have any other ideas on how to ease the burden on the use of resources?
Should we as a society attempt these kinds of massive humanitarian aid projects?
Should the national government (any nations) stand be hind such projects and give assistance to them, or should they be consider completely as public works projects and be handled by civilian contractors, companies, and local city and state/administrative governments be responsible to for the funding of such projects.
Any other thoughts.
No, governments should not be responsible for these projects; they are too expensive. We don't need higher taxes than we already have, and it is not our responsibility.
The problem with solar power is the price and limited lifespan. On top of that, solar panels need to be replace every ten years or so, and guess where it would end up, the landfill.
The best a person can do is be conservative with their power usage.

Here's the bad news sorry.
http://www.costhelper.com/cost/home-garden/tile-roof.html
$28000 for the average bottom end tile
$66000 for the average top end tile.
If clay tile is what you mean by barrel tile.

Solar roofing tiles – what is your experience?
Posted by admin in Solar roofing materials on 06 11th, 2009I am considering to build my own solar roofing tiles (they are kinda like solar panels) and just wondering if anybody has had any previous experience with it?
If so, please tell me approx how much was the total cost of materials and how long it took you?
I need solar panels to cover my roof instead of just having it on a little section.
You need to get a quote from somone in your area. There are just WAY too many factors that affect the cost of solar panel installation.
