would it be possible to make roof tile in to a solar panel?
Posted by admin in Tile roofing on 08 27th, 2009if roof tiles were made of solar panel materials at a similar cost as an normal roofing tile or slate it would be easy for the government to meet its carbon footprint and cut green house gas.
if 1 tile made 0.5volts then just think how much power a house or street could make.
sell the excess back to the power grid saving the consumer cash.
i just cant find out the costs for a solar cell.
Hi John
I know how hard it is to cut down power costs especially if you are on
a tight budget and on pre power.
I think it’s disgusting how much the power companies charge you and
after reviewing last months power budget ($300) I decided to research alternative methods of reducing my power bill.
I came across this website it shows you how to build your own solar panels for less than $100. I think that is better than spending $300 a month.
There are heaps of helpful hints and they even show you how to build
a wind turbine. I also read some really good stories about people that have had success using this method for building their own solar panels.

if anyone here has used this please let me know what you think and how it has worked for you.
So far I have only heard great things and I think it’s worth testing this method to lower your power bill and be free of those power companies.

Does anybody know anything about Roofs for real ?
Posted by admin in Metal roofing materials on 08 20th, 2009We need a new roof and are trying to decide between metal and shingle. We wanted to do a metal roof but the estimates have been from 42 thousand, 34 thousand, 28 thousand, 24 thousand and down to 22 thousand u s dollars for what is supposed to be the same job with the same material . Is it possible to have such a huge price difference for the same job or are the cheaper companies cutting quality also ? How can we ever find out ?
The costs on a dimensional shingle roof were close, They were 15 thousand, 14 thousand, and 12 thousand dollars. Again, this is quoted for the same job using the same materials.
We tried the BBB but they didn’t have anything on any of them that we could find.
Pitch is moderate, they can walk on it, it is standing seam, concealed fasteners,3 inch panels, 30 pounds barrier paper, hurricane vents, re install solar panels, this is in Miami, Florida, roof is about 2400 sq ft. My amazement is the vast difference for the same produce – a roof. They all say they are going to use this or that but my fear is that the cheapest will cut corners I don’t know about. Or are the others just trying to make way too much money ?
Terrain in Flolrida is all flat. I don’t know about valleys . That was for metal, for the 30 year architectual shingles the cost was very close for the 3 we got estimates all with a 1 thousand dollar difference, 14, 15, and 16 thousand. Also, I just checked, the roof is 2,800 sq ft.
If you give the dimensions, pitch, type or style or configuration of your roof. The types of materials being bid on like 1′,2′,or 3′ width of metal panels. Standing Seam type with hidden fasteners or rolled Corrugation type with neoprene sealed screws through the surface. Are the shingles 20 year or 30 year. How are the valleys going to be done? What sort type of felt paper or barrier materials will be used under the surface. The State you are in and the terrain at your location.Perhaps some sort of ice-dam product is required. Anyway with enough data someone out here in Answer-Land could probably give you some help in understanding your situation. In our area the County Builders Board requires the tradesmen to register with them and they recieve a Number and with that Number people can inquire to see if there are any complaints from customers, etc. Check out these info. sites and remember your cost of living index is about 20% higher then many other areas.
