The thoughts of lower life forms?

Posted by admin in Spray on roofing materials on 03 11th, 2010

I was working on my pole barn yesterday and while attempting to place some roof sheathing up on the roof I disturbed a small nest of paper wasps. I waited for them to settle down then sprayed down the nest with Brake Cleaner (Won’t actually kill the adults but stuns them for a few minutes)…
Anyway after about 20 minutes I climbed back up the ladder, and watching for wasps with both hands full of materials… a single wasp flew over and placed a dead wasp pupa on the ladder rung right in front of my face, then she flew off.
In your estimation, was this wasp thinking I would:
A) bring it back to life?
B) eat it for a snack?
C) jump off the ladder and run?
D) not use chemicals that might harm wasp babies next time?
It may have been the Queen. It was slightly larger than the others. Also If the dead pupa was simply in the way, why was it not simply dropped to the barn floor?

Hi Hermes,

What a very interesting read! Very visual! And an interesting witness you’ve played. If this were a dream, I would tell you the significance of the symbology used to explain the "story"; however, were it not for the sake of your coherent sight, it could easily be dismissed by you. Thus, no need to say.

Like a firefighter stumbling out of a home engulfed in flames and emerging from great smoke, his fellows run to carry his burden. -Is he still alive? Baring the weight of his comrade’s shoulders, legs in tow from exhaustion; he exhales with a violent cough. He is lain at the closest place to regain fresh air and others to come his aid.

What a sight to witness!

Seems it is not always about us.

Ginger,

I have a landscaping question. It appears that one of my trees in my back yard has some exposure.?

Posted by admin in Spray on roofing materials on 02 25th, 2010

The bark is missing from one of the limbs on one of my younger trees. It is an area off of the main trunk around 6" long and bare to the wood. I do not know if the black pruning spray will help or if there is a material to wrap that area. I am afraid if we have a bad winter it could hurt the tree or be exposed to bugs or disease. I can remember years ago my former neighbor used to put some roofing cement on areas such as this on his trees but I only need a very small amount and want to put the right material on the tree. Anyone with some landscaping experience, I would surely like your advice. Thank you very much.

RScot is talking about bark traceing. I have done this many times. pruneing spray’s should not be used,it will habor insects& diease’s. let the tree heal naturaly.

How would we make our 1/48 Architectural Scale model of a House look more realistic?

Posted by admin in Spray on roofing materials on 02 18th, 2010

I have to make a scale model of a house for construction at 1/48 scale. We bought sum stucco/paint from michaels and sum spray adhesive to hold down our driveway and grass. We also cut out the holes in the walls, but we are not sure how to make the windows so that they look realistic. We also need to construct the front door, side door to the garage, and a garage door. We already bought the concrete and roofing needed and we built the walls out of foam board and will be spraying them with the texture in a couple of days. However we still have to make a pool and a pond and need ideas on what types of materials to use for these different things. Thankyou for any help!!

Go to a model-hobby shop… you can buy polystyrene plastic sheet, strips, and angles that are PERFECT for building doors, window frames, etc All you need for tools are an X-acto knife, a metal ruler-square, and plastic cement (glue).

I’ve been building model buildings from that material, bass-wood, and foam-board in 1/35 scale as well as HO (1/87) and N (1/160) scales AND 1:1 scale for Theater sets.

For the POOL… I would use plastic or wood strip to make the rim of the pool, and then take a piece of clear plastic and paint the BOTTOM a "chlorine-blue". I’ve used this technique to make over 25 N-scale pools for my railroad (set in suburban California).

GOOD LUCK !!
