I need help with my background research!?

regional science fair is in seven days and i was wondering if this sounded good for my background research paper?

The possibilities for a roof are infinite. There are several different systems
available, shingle, metal, tile and the most recent invention of green roofing
are good examples. Each roof type has a number of colors and styles to choose
from. The shingle roof is most commonly applied due to its moderate price and
its extensive warranty. A drawback to the shingle is in sunny environments the
UV Rays can cause premature deterioration. The next most commonly applied roof
is the tile roof. Its desirable appearance and actual roof life of 30 to 35
years entices people to choose this type of roof. The flaw with a tile roof is
the material tends to degrade faster than the tile its-self, voiding the roof
warranty. The metal roof is common in Florida due its tropical style, and its
desirable because of its exceptional warranty of 50 years. A disadvantage of
this roof type is the coastal climate has a lot of corrosive effects on the
metal causing it to break down prematurely. Lastly, the recent discovery of
vegetative roofs, also referred to as “green” roofs, has become extremely
popular in large cities, for commercial buildings, due to its ability to keep a
building cooler, offset the greenhouse affect, and save up to 20 percent on an
electric bill. Vegetative roofing is not popular among residential communities
due to the exuberant cost. If prices become more reasonable or it becomes
government subsidized it has the potential to be more widely used in the future.

What is the point of your science project? That is, what aspect of roofs are you studying? You have included some information about how long they last and how economical they might be. At what point does science or engineering come into the picture?

A roof is supposed to protect whatever is under it from the weather. How does one design do a better job than another?

What you have posted here sounds sort of like a primer on roofing types that Home Depot might offer on a brochure.

    Where are your paragraphs? Sources?

Rework your first 3 sentences. "Each roof type has a number of colors and styles to choose from." Focus on 3 areas in your paper. Advantages, Disadvantages, Uses. Clearly state this in your main paragraph.

The first sentence should be rewarded… perhaps "roofing options are infinite."

Maybe elaborate more on premature deterioration. – it sounds like you copied it from somewhere, so elaborate on that.

"… in Florida due (to) its…"

"… type is (in) the.." (I would rewrite this sentence… it’s only a disadvantage in coastal areas…). SO maybe: The main disadvantage of metal roofing is it is susceptible to corrosion, especially in coastal areas.

Look up the differences between affect and effect.

I believe green roofs were not recently discovered, as they were used in the past… i would say the recent application… or something a long those lines, implying that more people/businesses are taking an active part in using it… look for businesses or buildings that do use green roofing.

Vegetative roofing is not popular where? It can’t be everywhere. exuberant costs? How much?
