Certainteed Polymer Slate (Symphony Series) & Hybrid Insulation – buildaroo.com
CertainTeed, manufacturers of sustainable energy efficient products, had a bunch of great products on display at their booth at this year’s Greenbuild conference. Two really awesome products we took notice of were a hybrid insulation product, composed of part spray foam insulation and part blown virgin fiberglass, and a beautiful faux slate roofing product (the Symphony series) made of polymers and significantly lighter than real slate. The Buildaroo News Team interviewed Lucas from Certainteed about these awesome energy efficient products. Watch the video above to find out more. A bit of info about these products:
The Symphony Series
- made to replicate the appearance of slate
- made of polymers and lighter than slate – as a result, less load weight on the roof. Can have the appearance of slate even if your roof wasn’t designed to bear that weight.
- solar reflectance above 35%; as a result it qualifies for tax credits while saving money on energy costs.
- can reduce attic temperatures by as much as 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
- life expectancy is 40 – 60 years
- can be sent back to CertainTeed if there are issues.
CertainTeed Hybrid Insulation
- composed of an inch of spray foam, which contributes to air sealing the house, and virgin fiberglass which adds insulation value to the house.
- installed as two products – The foam is sprayed in, and a netting is applied over the studs. A tube is put through the netting, and the fiberglass is then sprayed in.
- The insulation value of the hybrid insulation is R15 for the spray foam and R14 for virgin fiberglass.
- you get the air sealing of the spray foam without the high cost of using 100 % spray foam for all the property’s insulation.
